History
Sawa is a national Palestinian non-governmental, non-political organization. Established in 1998, Sawa works to end violence against women and children, through education, willingness to confront taboos, and providing confidential, rights-based psycho-social support to victims of sexual, domestic, and other forms of violence, as well as those suffering from other problems they cannot discuss with anyone else. This support is given through our Call Center where trained volunteers and staff use new technologies to provide reliable counseling 16 hours/7 days. We also offer face-to-face counseling. Sawa encourages addressing violence as a serious community issue. Workshops in all areas of Palestine, including Gaza and marginalized communities in the West Bank, help women and children to understand their human rights, the types of violence, and issues of health and well-being. Trainings build the capacities of relevant professionals to address cases, and to support victims to recover or seek legal redress. Sawa has also piloted a successful project engaging men in the struggle to end violence against women.
