The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) organized two workshops entitled “Freedom of Speech in International and Local Legislation” in the media faculties of Al-Aqsa University in the Gaza Strip and Al-Najah University in the West Bank.

The workshops covered issues of freedom of expression in local legislation and international legislation, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; in addition, participants discussed methods of protecting journalists in conflict zones according to the Geneva conventions and the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO.

A number of media teachers and students participated in these workshops and asked various questions about the law and freedom of expression. These workshops come as part of a series, funded by UNESCO office in Ramallah, which will continue over the next few days.
