With and For Girls Awards are given out to organizations in five geographic regions – Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Central Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, The American Continent and the Caribbean, and The Middle East and North Africa. Besides, Roles for Social Change Association-ADWAR got a high rank among the awards given to Africa and Middle-East for its framework within Palestine in general, and in marginalized area (C), and targeting the most exposed groups to gender based violence.
This year, 191 local organizations were nominated to receive the Award by 67 referral partners worldwide. Only 20 organizations won and ADWAR had been among the highest ranked organizations at first levels. Award winners focus on a variety of thematic issues and have demonstrated strengths in engaging girls in governance, programme design and decision-making to ensure that their work is really girl-led.
The With and For Girls Awards is a global initiative which identifies and supports strong, local organizations working with and for girls, working in tackling gender discrimination, inequality and harmful practices affecting girls all over the world.
Winners of the With and For Girls Awards receive funding and capacity building support. They will also join an existing network of inspiring past award winners, funders, organizations and individuals from the girls’ and women’s rights sector. All 20 award-winning organizations will be celebrated at an awards ceremony in London in the presence of mass audience.
The general director of ADWAR, Sahar Yousef AlKawasmeh had pointed out the importance of this award as it is a gift for the Palestinians in general, and for Palestinians women and girls in particular, especially in marginalized areas. Besides, it such a gift for the Palestinian Feminist movement that proved its ability to reach women and girls around Palestine. AlKawasmeh also thanked all governmental organizations for its implementation of accountability sessions to fulfil those girls’ needs, especially Directorate of Education, Ministry of Local Government, and Local councils.
Moreover, she assured the importance of partnership between local community and governmental organizations, and she stated that the Palestinian organizations are effective, professional and are able to build the Palestinian State.
