The rural center for Sustainable Development
History
The Palestinian Center for Rural Development (RCSD) was established in 1999. In Arabic, RCSD, which is pronounced rassid, means the guard. In the rural areas of Palestine, al-rassid refers to a force that protects valuable things so that do not exploit it. It is said that the valuable object is always being watched; it is misused. RCSD, which established its office in al-Bourg, a village that is located 36 km south-west of al-Khalil city, was the first Palestinian civil society organization working at the national level to set up its office in a rural marginalized area. It was initiated by a group of young Palestinian men and women from various parts of Palestine and with a range of specializations and points of view. The group sought to create an organization that would provide Palestinians with a vibrant environment to work with local communities and community organizations in order to create a positive situation that will meet the needs of future Palestinian generations.
