This paper will explore how social capital applies to the Palestinian Territories and will identify the main guises in which it manifests; namely ‘bonding’ social capital and ‘bridging’ social capital. The former manifestation relates to ‘strong ties‘ between people who share similar characteristics; this level of connection occurs within families and small circles of close friends who share similar experiences and information resulting in strong, close knit networks. While the latter relates to ‘weaker ties’; this level of connection occurs amongst individuals from different backgrounds and for those who have invariably shared different experiences and information, culminating in looser and more diverse networks.
