The Social and Economic Costs of War-Induced Disabilities in the Gaza Strip

The impact of war on persons with disabilities is both direct and indirect. The weaponry employed by the occupying forces in their campaign of genocide against the Gaza Strip provides unequivocal evidence of the deliberate infliction of injuries that result in either permanent or temporary disabilities. These disabilities impose both direct and indirect costs on persons with disabilities and their families, making them more vulnerable to poverty due to the difficulties they face in securing fair employment opportunities that accommodate their needs and requirements.

The disabilities resulting from the war often compel the families of persons with disabilities to reduce their working hours or accept lower wages in exchange for flexibility that allows them to accompany and provide necessary care for their disabled family members. This support is crucial for helping them adapt to the challenges and demands associated with disability.
