Ramallah- 27 June 2011: The Palestinian Centre for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) published today the first issue of "MADA El-E’lam"
magazine - the first specialized magazine on media affairs in Palestine -which will be released every two months and will contribute to filling the information vacuum Palestinian media has suffered in the past decades.
In addition to compiling and disseminating news from local, Arab and International media, the first issue presents various topics with the publications leading articles: ‘The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, ‘Security and the Media’, ‘Israeli compensation law: encouraging attacks against journalists?’, ‘Facebook in Palestine enhances freedom of expression but fails to encourage diversity of opinion’, ‘From Tunisia to Syria: Media affects and Arab revolutions’, ‘Media education in Palestinian Universities: the dialectic between the practical and theoretical’, ‘The relationship between the correspondent and the editor’, an interview with Aljazeera program director Aref Hijawi, ‘Media discourse following Fatah and Hamas reconciliation’, ‘New Media:
Tools and references’, ‘Freedom of expression in Palestine’, ‘The disappearing Palestinian media outlets in Jerusalem’, and an article discussing the long established Palestinian magazine “Alnafaés”.
In the opening article, editing director Mousa Rimawi expressed his hopes that the magazine will make contributions towards highlighting the existing problems in Palestinian media and become a vital resource for journalists by providing exclusive information and contemporary media analysis.
Rimawi thanked the writers for their contributions to MADA’s new flagship media magazine and invited submissions and contributions to subsequent issues, and called the journalists to write in the upcoming issues. Rimawi concluded by thanking the World Association of Newspapers and News publishers (WAN-IFRA) for its support in establishing the magazine.
Editor in Chief, Ghazi Bani Odeh, said that MADA El-E’lam will be issued periodically every two months, and will be distributed freely to journalists, media, governmental and civil society organizations, targeting institutions working in the field of human rights particularly, as well as public libraries in the various cities of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
